What is the Arthur Martin Fund?
The club was founded in 1936 on junior teams [out of Canberra High School which was then at Telopea Park] and it has had junior teams continuously since then. In honour of the club’s principal founder, The Arthur Martin Fund in the club’s account holds donations to support the club’s initiatives for juniors, over and above the standard competition and training arrangements which are covered by annual playing fees. It was set up to mark the 75th anniversary (1936-2011). Some hundreds have already been contributed by some of the club’s old timers, including one of our club patrons, Don Whitbread, who was coached as a junior by Arthur Martin. Donations, no matter how small or large, are most welcome and can be paid into the club’s bank account and marked with the reference: AMF.
Above all we want youngsters to learn to play the game well and enjoy their hockey plus the company of teammates and club mates and to continue to do so in coming years.
